On the Scan tab, pick Receipt (Single Transaction) or Bank Statement (Multiple Transactions) — see exactly what each covers below. This tells the AI which fields to extract, so a statement's transactions and balances come back correctly instead of being forced into a receipt's shape.
Drag and drop a photo or PDF, or click to browse. JPG, PNG, and PDF are all supported — a printed page, a phone photo, or an emailed PDF all work the same way.
Within seconds, the relevant fields are extracted automatically — store/vendor/bank name, date, line items or transactions, tax, balances, and due dates where applicable. There's nothing to type — review the result and fix anything that needs a correction.
Download the result as a CSV (for Excel, Google Sheets, or accounting software), a formatted PDF report, or view it later from your transaction history on the Transactions tab.
There are only two document types, split along one real distinction: does the document represent one transaction, or a ledger of many?
Covers store receipts and invoices — an invoice is just a receipt with an optional due date. Extracted fields: store/vendor, date, line items, tax, total, payment method, and (for invoices) a due date. Defaults to expense; flip it to income if it's actually money coming in (see below).
Covers bank statements and credit card statements — one document, many transactions, plus an opening and closing balance. Each transaction comes back as its own line with a signed amount (negative for withdrawals/charges, positive for deposits/payments) — that sign already tells you whether each one was money in or out, no separate flag needed.
Every Receipt-type entry is tagged expense or income. Scanned receipts default to expense — a generic photo can't reliably tell whether you were the buyer or the seller, so we don't guess. If it's actually income (a refund, an invoice you issued rather than received), edit the entry afterward and flip it. Manual entries (below) ask you directly, since you already know which one it is.
Some transactions have nothing to photograph — a cash Facebook Marketplace purchase, a sale you made, an informal deal. On the Scan tab, click "Don't have a document? Enter it manually" to type in the store/vendor, amount, and whether it's income or expense directly. No AI is involved, and it doesn't count against your scan quota.
No — a free browser session is created automatically the first time you scan a receipt, with no signup, password, or personal information required. Your history stays tied to that browser.
If you want to access your receipts from more than one device, or you're on a paid plan, use the Login link in the header — ReceiptToCSV uses passwordless magic-link login, so you'll get a one-time link by email instead of managing another password.
Instead of uploading receipts one at a time, Premium and Team accounts can select a whole batch at once — a month's worth of gas station and grocery receipts photographed in one sitting, for example — and get them all processed together.
The Projects tab lets you keep separate receipt histories for separate purposes — a "2026 Taxes" project, a "Client Reimbursements" project, a "Personal" project — each with its own export and its own custom field configuration (Premium/Team), so exports only include the columns that project actually needs.
Premium accounts can ask natural-language questions about their receipt history directly in the app instead of scrolling through a table — for example:
The Assistant can also generate a fresh export — CSV, JSON, or PDF — on the spot, based on whatever you were just discussing. Available on both web and mobile.
Team plans share one scan quota across every invited member — there's no per-seat fee, and membership isn't capped. The account owner manages everything from the Admin Portal:
The iOS and Android apps mirror the web experience — scan with your phone's camera instead of uploading a photo separately, and everything (including the AI Assistant and receipt approval status for Team accounts) stays in sync with the web app under the same login.
